We (Special Care Clothing Solutions) have several times approached the ATO to have the GST lifted from the Adaptive Clothing for people with a disability. Recently we were made aware that there are many items that are required to assist in the Daily living for people with a disability that GST is charged on. We need to have this ACT changed so that either People with a disability are automatically exempt from GST or the ATO increase the list in Section 3 of the GST Regulations, Table: Medical aids and appliances.
We need to hear from you and would appreciate your comments, to enable us to have a bigger voice to get things changed.

How will the NDIS help you and your family? Share Christine’s story below:
Clarification about the Productivity Commission, Every Australian Counts campaign and NDIS…. Beautifully explained by Christine, from Red Hill in Qld.
“The Productivity Commission is an independent govt agency, has proposed new disability system including an NDIS.
Every Australian Counts campaign is an alliance of Australian Federation of Disability Organisations, National Disability Services (service providers) and Carers Australia, who have joined forces to fund and campaign for an NDIS.
Without a campaign the government can completely ignore Commission’s recommendations for an NDIS, which they would like to do because it will cost $6.5 billion per year. But the economic and social gains to be made will far outweigh the cost, eg if people receive the disability equipment and support they need when they need it, many more people with disabilities and their family carers will be able to work. Wheelchair users won’t develop scoliosis, aspiration and pneumonia just because they can’t afford to buy a wheelchair that fits them. The wheelchair our son needs costs $32K AUD ($24KUSD). That’s the cost of the car we would like to replace, because it’s 14 years old. But we can’t afford to buy both a wheelchair and car (and modify our house etc). For last 12 years we have paid for ALL our son’s disability equipment and therapy, we have no support and until recently I couldn’t get a job where I could work from home at midnight if I needed to because from 6am-9am I provide all my son’s care, same thing from 3pm-9pm, doesn’t leave much capacity for “normal” working hours.
So the system needs a major structural overhaul, get rid of bureaucratic obstacles and deliver funding so PWD/families decide how to use it. Takes it from a charity model where people are told how they can use limited funding to treating them like they have a brain and can make their own intelligent decisions. EG you can get funds for a support worker to take you on “recreational outings” but not to support you at work. So you are forced to not work, get pension and the state will pay to take you on a few outings. Ridiculous! The sad issue is my situation is replicated across the country in hundreds and thousands of homes. All changeable and can be improved (not fixed, but vastly improved) with an NDIS”
HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT WHAT THE NDIS WILL DO FOR YOU .. we would love to hear your story.
